“The team had the pleasure of the seeing the whole family at the end for the big reveal and seeing them all in tears, led by Alex’s mum and sister, only went to emphasize how much this makeover will change all their lives.” - Jon Bennett, Salesforce UK

Wellchild & Salesforce help Alex’s dream to play in his garden comes true

There are thousands of children and young people in the UK living with a long-term or complex health condition. WellChild is the national charity working to ensure the best possible care and support for all these children and their families wherever they are and whenever they need it- regardless of their diagnosis, situation or location. Although the organization is best known for its UK-wide team of WellChild Nurses who provide practical and emotional support particularly in the home, they also invest in countless other projects as well as influence policy makers to help enable families with seriously ill children to get the support they need for every step of their journey.

Salesforce Volunteers in the UK have contributed more than 2,261 hours to WellChild through their Helping Hands program to help adapt children’s homes to meet their needs. For Alex, that meant reconstructing his back yard so he could more easily get outside and get fresh air.

Seven-year-old Alex has Hypermobility Syndrome, and his garden was too dangerous for him to use- it was on a steep slope and only accessible if you could climb a two-foot wall. This is an impossible task for someone with Alex’s condition and especially taunting to a seven-year-old boy. Thanks to the leadership of Wellchild and a team of incredibly strong willed and determined Salesforce employees, Alex now has the freedom and independence to get out and play in the fresh air and with his parents safe in the knowledge he will be free from danger on his own in the garden.

As a result of Salesforce employees utilizing Saleforce.org’s 1-1-1 model for projects close to their heart, WellChild has received over $16,000 in grants to fund projects like Alex’s backyard and more than 2,261 volunteer hours to execute on them, thereby helping other kids like Alex’s feel and play safer in their own homes.
